When budgets are tight, replacing an aging computer can mean taking money away from programs, services, or the people your organization supports.
Your programs are your reason for being, so The Human IT Company donates professionally refurbished computers to eligible charities, non-profits, and community organizations throughout Greater Vancouver.
These computers are intended for practical everyday work, including Microsoft 365, email, web-based applications, administration, volunteer coordination, client intake, and community program delivery.
Limited Budgets Shouldn’t Limit Your Impact
A slow, unreliable, or outdated computer can make even simple work frustrating. Staff lose time. Volunteers struggle with basic tasks. Programs become harder to deliver. Yet buying new equipment may not be realistic when every available dollar already has a purpose.
We understand. Our computer donation program helps suitable equipment find a second life while helping local organizations continue their work.
How the Program Works
1. Tell Us What You Need
Complete our online application and explain:
- What your organization does
- Who will use the computer
- What it will be used for
- How it will support your work
2. Applications Are Reviewed Monthly
Applications are considered together rather than approved on a first-come, first-served basis. This helps us distribute available equipment fairly and consider the potential community impact of each request.
3. Approved Organizations Receive Available Equipment
Selected organizations will be contacted directly.
Available equipment can vary and may include business-grade desktop computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, and computer mice. Brands, models, specifications, and quantities will also vary.
Who Can Apply?
The program is intended for legitimate organizations providing a clear community benefit, including:
- Registered Canadian charities
- Incorporated non-profit organizations
- Community service organizations
- Shelters, food banks, youth programs, and seniors’ programs
- Schools and educational or community-access programs
Applicants must be located in Greater Vancouver or the Capital Regional District. Organizations elsewhere in British Columbia may also apply but will be responsible for any shipping and handling costs.
Applications from individuals, for-profit businesses, educational institutions, political campaigns, or groups seeking equipment for resale, raffles, prizes, fundraising, or personal use are not eligible.
How Recipients Are Chosen
Applications are assessed based on:
- The organization’s community impact
- The clarity and urgency of the need
- How the equipment will be used
- Financial barriers to purchasing equipment
- Whether the available equipment is suitable
- Fair distribution among applicants
Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
How Many Computers Can an Organization Receive?
Most approved organizations will receive between one and three computers. Larger requests may occasionally be considered when the equipment will directly support a defined client-facing program, training initiative, public-access area, or community service.
To keep the program available to as many organizations as possible, we generally do not provide large-scale staff computer replacements or organization-wide equipment refreshes.
What Is Included?
All equipment is previously used and may show varying degrees of cosmetic wear. Donated computers will normally receive:
- Secure erasure of previous information
- Hardware testing and compatibility verification
- A clean operating-system installation
- Required power cables or adapters, where available
Monitors, keyboards, mice, and other peripherals will be tested and deemed working as at the time of donation. Where available power and connection cords will be included.
Software subscriptions, Microsoft 365 licensing, internet service, printers, delivery, setup, data migration, ongoing support, and future repairs are not included unless specifically agreed in writing.
The computers are intended for everyday office and web-based work. They are not suitable for gaming, engineering, advanced graphic design, video production, or other high-performance applications.

Common Questions
Can a Canadian Charity Receive Free Donated Computers?
Yes. Registered charities, non-profits, and qualifying community organizations in Greater Vancouver and the Victoria\ CRD can apply for refurbished computers through The Human IT Company.
Approval depends on demonstrated need, intended use, available supply, and whether the equipment is suitable for the requested purpose.
How Can a Non-Profit Apply for Donated Computers in Vancouver or Victoria?
Organizations can apply using our online application form (above).
The application should explain what the organization does, who will use the equipment, how many computers are required, and how the donation will support its work in the community.
Applications are reviewed together each month.
Are Donated Computers Completely Free?
There is no purchase charge for approved donated equipment.
Recipient organizations remain responsible for software licensing, internet service, setup, installation, ongoing support, repairs, replacement, and any accessories not included with the donation. You can obtain those through The Human IT Company or via the provider of your own choosing.
